High Holiday ReaderDear Friends,

We wanted to write to you with more details about our upcoming Days of Awesome Un-Service. We very much look forward to an inspirational and enjoyable Rosh Hashanah with you.

We will be using a custom made English language reader (see photo on the right) that includes translations of popular prayers, explanations, stories, and the High Holiday silent meditations in English and Hebrew.

Seating - we will be having open seating on a first come first serve basis, with mixed and separate seating areas.

We have moved up the time of Yoga to allow for a longer session - feel free to bring clothing to change into for Yoga as there is a changing room next to our gym.

Please bring a printout of your reservation for security and enter from the corner of Oakhurst and Olympic. Follow the signs to the Lower Gym and our Un-Service.

Very important - Please bring a yarmulka and tallit if this is your custom as we are not able be provide them. Feel free to bring any other reading materials or prayer books you want.

If you are looking for a traditional Hebrew Language learners service, there is one being offered in the same building called "I Wish I Got More Out Of The Services Service"  (email highholidays2011@yahoo.com to reserve a seat)

FYI The Chai Center is having a New Year's Eve party on Wednesday evening. Visit http://www.chaicenter.org/freehighholidays.htm for more info.

If you have any questions - please email us at info@jconnectla.com.

Shana Tova!  May you have a sweet and healthy New Year!

Sunday, September 18, 2011 - 8:33 AM

You don’t have to pay-to-pray, dress-to-kill, doze off, question your tribal affiliation, be fluent in Hebrew, hear lengthy moralizing or politically divisive sermons, and eat stale honey cake this Rosh Hashanah.

JConnectLA and Jewlicious are running our own version of the High Holidays in Los Angeles. This is a totally out-of-the boxexperience called Days of Awesome 2011, a Jewlicious High Holiday Experience.

We have a limit on space - so make sure to sign up (and make a donation if you can) if you are coming!

Sunday, September 11, 2011 - 9:54 AM

What is an Un-Service?

We have stripped down the services to include the most neccesary elements, infused with readings, and songs. On either side of the Un-Service are classes on relevant Rosh Hashanah Topics that are optional.

Bring any books or other items that you might want to use during the time for personal inspiration.

Seating will be both mixed and seperate for those that have different traditions.

We will not be having: Torah Reading, introductory psalms, long sermons and a few other elements of traditional services.

If you are looking for a traditional High Holiday Service - you may want to consider other services around LA. If you are looking for an out of the box High Holiday experience unlike anything you have done before - than Days of Awesome are for you.
